Conversations from the Road!

Tony Mangan
Dave
Dave Stack to answer your question I intend to write " The Irishman who walked around the world " I use Facebook as a basis for both the blog but really consider these Facebook posts to be my unedited first drafts for it. Feel free to go back to the start and read it! Same for my world run on www.theworldjog.com which is all archived. I learned a lot on that run about blogging and structure and am putting it into action here. I still have a lot to learn, but enjoying the experience.
Thanks for nice words Description: https://www.facebook.com/images/emoji.php/v7/f27/1.5/16/1f600.png😀

Walking around the world, World Walk, Walking the world, world run, running, Tony Mangan, world records, ultra…

Dave Stack Great stuff.. I'll be first in the q and hopefully get you to sign it for me if the opportunity arises. I'll dip into your world jog at the weekend Description: https://www.facebook.com/images/emoji.php/v7/f55/1.5/16/1f44d.png👍

Tony Mangan Thanks again Dave Stack! Part of the problem on the world run was that I didn't bother with a smart phone for first three years. I was often a couple of weeks behind. When something exciting happened I wrote about it immediately an then did the catch up! So you can see how that blog became disjointed and out of sync.
Now in my archive I number each blog. The last one was world walk blog/ China 14. If I was behind and wanted to write about today 1 would call it number 15 and then do the catch up on 14. So that way when I put it all together it will (hopefully!) be nice and neat and in order!
I apologize for the disjointed manner of the run blog! Ps I made many mistakes with place names and am now double checking them when I write in a name,

Dave Stack I can see that technology is working great for you this time around.. In most countries anyway Description: https://www.facebook.com/images/emoji.php/v7/f82/1.5/16/263a.png
One question that keeps popping up in my head anyway is that of security/safety are you not scared of wondering into bandit country or a dodgy town and being stripped of karma and other personal belongings? Your posts always refer to the great people you meet and the welcome you receive but do you ever find yourself in sticky situations?

Tony Mangan Thanks Dave Stack
Wow so much there! Even in the safest of countries one can be unlucky. Recently in Iceland , a country with high gun ownership yet little crime a young woman was murdered on her way home from a nightclub. Murder is rare there. Just a few weeks before I walked in Mongolia an English man was robbed and murdered for £300. What's the alternative? Sit at home and read other people's travel books? I was robbed in Panama, but only a small amount. I have to have sharp instincts. I deliberately dress down. However, what do I say to people I meet in cafes etc? If I want to share my message well I have to tell them. I try to be sensitive and not too flash. Yes I am at people's mercy, especially camping but I try to stay in places where it's not
too isolated. I am also vulnerable on quiet roads. A couple of times on the run when I was running with my backpack (I mostly sent the cart on ahead) I was suspicious and ran off the road and into forests to give the people the slip. In Mexico because I had done my research I got a police escort for 2,000kms. Much of Central America was dangerous but I got through! It will be in the book " The Irishman who ran around the world" Part One - All of the Americas. Please don't ask when! I weary as part one and two are written , I have issues getting the editing process, book design and up on self publish
It will happen, but I don't know when!

Tony Mangan Ps Dave Stack In a radio interview just before the start of the world run I was asked by the presenter..
" So tony what happens if you are murdered?"
My reply
" Well, what happens if I am not murdered? I think I am going to have a great time!"
